Calhoun, Peterson named first team all-region, all-conference

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Two members of the Grizzly Basketball team at Missouri State University-West Plains have earned all-region and all-conference honors.

Sophomores Sardaar Calhoun and Alex Peterson have both been selected first team honorees on the NJCAA All-Region 16 team and the All-Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) team for the 2019-2020 season.

"It's fitting for both of them," Grizzly Basketball Interim Head Coach Aaron Proctor said. "For Sardaar, it caps off a significant career here at Missouri State-West Plains. For Alex, it's significant recognition from the other coaches in the region of his talent level   and is a great testament to his level of consistency day in and day out for us."

"It's unique recognition for two guys from the same region who grew up together and have taken the same route from high school to college," Proctor added. Calhoun and Peterson are both from Tappahannock, Virginia.

Calhoun, a 6-foot, 6-inch guard, averaged 18.9 points and 4.5 rebounds this season. He shot 48.5 percent from the floor, 45.6 percent from 3-point range and 82.8 percent from the free throw line.

This is the second consecutive season Calhoun has earned first-team All-Region 16 honors.

Peterson, a 6-foot, 7-inch forward, averaged 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds a game this season. He shot 54.9 percent from the floor, 31.3 percent from 3-point range and 51.9 percent from the free throw line.
