Kelly Wiedemann honored with Missouri House resolution

Kelly Wiedemann, a sophomore outside attacker with the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Volleyball team, has been recognized for her athletic and academic achievements by the Missouri House of Representatives.

On Jan. 15, legislators approved and adopted a resolution offered by 154th District State Rep. David Evans (R-West Plains) during the second regular session of the 100th General Assembly congratulating Wiedemann.

The framed document was presented to Wiedemann by Evans prior to the Feb. 22 Grizzly Basketball game at the West Plains Civic Center.

"It is my pleasure and honor to present this House Resolution to Kelly for her lifetime achievements, both off and on the volleyball court, and for both her academic and athletic achievements, and to congratulate her for all of her many other successes," Evans said.

Impressive statistics

Wiedemann was named a second team NJCAA All-American for the second consecutive year this past season. She is only the eighth Grizzly to have been named a two-time NJCAA All-American, Head Coach Paula Wiedemann said.

She also was one of only five NJCAA Division 1 players with at least 500 kills and 400 digs this past season. She ranked ninth in the country in kills with 519 while averaging 3.68 kills per set and posting a .250 attacking percentage.

She also ranked sixth in the nation in total attacks (1,389) and ninth in points earned (595.5).

Wiedemann led the Grizzlies in kills, kills per set, service aces (37) and points earned this past season. She was first among hitters in attacking percentage, second among all players in digs (443) and digs per set (3.14) and fourth among all players in blocking (61).

Among all Grizzlies, Wiedemann is ninth in career kills (909), eighth in career points earned (1,053) and 16th in career digs (833).
