Grizzly Softball picks up 2 more wins in Arkansas

The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Softball team picked up two wins on its first road trip of the season.

The Grizzlies (4-0) defeated the Arkansas State University-Mtn. Home Trailblazers 10-2 and 13-2 in a double-header Feb. 8 in Mountain Home.

First game statistics

In the opening contest, freshman pitcher Jordyn Foley, Ozark, pitched four innings, giving up two hits and one run while striking out seven batters.

Freshman pitcher Kennedy Cogdill, East Prairie, finished out the five-inning contest. She gave up two hits and one run while fanning one batter.

Freshman infielder Alexis Funkhouser, Sullivan, led the offensive charge for the Grizzlies. She went 2-3 at the plate with a single and a double. She scored one run and had four RBIs.

Cogdill followed, hitting two singles in her four at bats and recording two RBIs. Freshman outfielder Lexie Gastineau, Ava, rounded out the hitting for the Grizzlies, recording two singles in her four at bats. She scored one run and had one RBI.

Second game statistics

In the nightcap, Foley hurled all seven innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs and one walk while fanning three batters.

Foley also led the offensive charge for the Grizzlies, going 4-5 at the plate. She hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and two singles and had six RBIs.

Freshman infielder Zoey Williams, West Plains, when 3-5 at the plate, hitting a home run, a double and a single. She recorded four RBIs for the game.

Freshman catcher Kennedy Evans, Lamar, hit a double in her only at bat, knocking in two batters.

Up next

The Grizzlies return home for double header against the Evangel University Valor Saturday, Feb. 17, at Hilburn Sports Complex adjacent to West Plains High School on Howell Avenue. Game times are 2 and 4 p.m.
